As per tradition, LAMIERA presents its next edition to the international press in Hannover. The meeting was chaired by Filippo Gasparini, vice-president of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, the Italian machine tools, robots and automation systems manufacturers' association, and Italian entrepreneur of metal forming sector. Riccardo Gaslini, exhibition manager of UCIMU, oversaw explaining features about the fair which will take place, from Tuesday 6 to Friday 9 May 2025, at fieramilano Rho.
LAMIERA, the international exhibition dedicated to the industry of sheet metal forming and cutting machine tools and innovative technologies related to the sector, is now in its 23rd edition. As of this edition, LAMIERA starts on Tuesday (instead of Wednesday) and ends on Friday (instead of Saturday) keeping its four days duration. The decision to change the opening day was taken after hearing the opinion of exhibitors with the aim of bringing LAMIERA into line with other international events, especially now that its internationality rate is growing.
Over the years the trade show has become one of the leading appointments in the international panorama of events focused on the world of sheet metal forming and cutting, a field in which Italy stands out, holding the second position in the world ranking of production and exports and the third in the consumption one (2023 data).
With a production of 3,4 billion euro, up 8% on the previous year, in 2023, the Italian metal forming machinery and technology industry consolidated its second position in the world ranking of manufacturers. It came second, after China, but ahead of Germany, over which it has further increased the advantage already gained the previous year.
But it did even better in terms of exports. Thanks to the excellent performance in the foreign market (with an increase of almost 30% in export to a value of 1,8 billion) in 2023, Italy took again the second place in international ranking after China and before Germany.
Due to the general uncertainty, in 2023, Italy was third in the international consumption ranking (-7.6%, 1,9 billion euro). Despite this fall, Italy confirms itself as one of the most important consumer markets worldwide, after China, which undeniably has completely different country sizes and business opportunities compared with all the other nations, and after US. Moreover, with reference to European area, Italy is at the top of the ranking since 2020.
Filippo Gasparini, vice-president of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, said: “we expect the weak performance, starting in 2023 and confirmed in 2024, according to our new forecasts (UCIMU Department Study), will stop as early as 2025 also thanks to the availability of the new Transition 5.0 law”.
According to the new forecasts by Oxford Economics, referred to the whole machine tool industry sector (metal cutting machines and metal forming machines), 2024 is confirmed as a complicated year for the world sector industry, but recovery is expected already in 2025 and confirmed in 2026.
In 2025, the world consumption of machine tools will reach the value of 75 billion euro (+6,9%). Asian countries will further increase investment in new production technologies growing to 39,8 billion, 6.6% more than in 2024. European and American consumption is also expected to turn around and return to the positive sign. American demand is expected to increase, by 11.6%, to 16.2 billion euro. European investments should increase, by 4.1%, to 19 billion euro.
In this context of recovery, confirmed also in 2026, Italy will show strong resilience. After the downturn in 2024, already in 2025, we will see a significant rebound in demand for investment in new production technologies by Italian users, accounting for 10.5%, to reach 3,8 billion euro. The positive trend should continue even in 2026, although at a slower pace (+ 4.2%, 3,9 billion euro).
Promoted by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, and organized by CEU-CENTRO ESPOSIZIONI UCIMU, LAMIERA is the only trade fair in Italy exclusively dedicated to the metal forming sector. An event chosen by more and more Italian and foreign companies to present a preview of their projects and innovative solutions.
Machines, plants, equipment for processing sheet metal, tubes, profiles, wires and structural metal fabrication, presses, moulds and dies, moulding, surface treatments and finishing, parts, components, accessories, tooling, fastener materials, technical and industrial subcontracting represent the heart of the exhibition, which will show the best of the new state-of-the-art technologies or 'The Bright Side of Metal Forming', as the slogan of this edition states. As a side note, the event will emphasize a special focus on some technological themes related to machine tools.
FABBRICA FUTURA will be dedicated to software and technologies for connectivity, data management and automation and to digital systems and robotics applied to sheet metal processing; SALDATECH will offer an overview of the wide and diversified world of welding, one of the most important sheet-metal joining technologies; FASTENER INDUSTRY will show a proposal of screws, bolts, fastening and clamping systems; WORLD OF HEAT AND SURFACE TREATMENTS will host machines, systems, accessories and consumables focused on pre- and post-production treatments, for ferrous and non-ferrous materials, ensuring a complete view of this segment that is continuously developing; METROLOGY & TESTING will be centred on testing, measuring and quality-control systems and machines, which are essential for production in this field; BLECH ITALY SERVICE will concern technical subcontracting and services for the industry of the sector, the six technological themes of the exhibition.
In addition, starting this year, LAMIERA will propose a Revamping & Retrofitting area focused on machines and plants that have been adequately renewed and equipped with new functionalities to meet the needs of a market that is complementary to that of “new machinery”.
“In the Italian exhibition panorama - said Riccardo Gaslini, exhibition manager of UCIMU - LAMIERA is the only event dedicated exclusively to machines for cutting, processing and forming sheet metal. The high quality on show, and the attention focused, through the innovative exhibition themes, on the new leading technologies in the industry make the fair, year after year, more and more relevant and appealing, both nationally and internationally”.
A strong offer recognized by users and manufacturers from all over the world is an element of absolute attraction for international operators who find in LAMIERA the best opportunity to observe closely the biggest players in the sector. In fact, data from the last editions of the event, show that the presence at the fair of all Italian manufacturers - large, small and medium, for standard and super-customized technologies - is also a very strong driver for the participation of foreign manufacturers, belonging both to countries with a solid tradition in this sector and to those of more recent affirmation coming also from areas outside the EU, whose presence at LAMIERA grows decisively year after year.
Adding further value to the exhibition will be the collateral initiatives and projects that will make the visiting experience complete and full of interest. LAMIALAMIERA, the event area of the fair that will present a rich program of meetings - related to relevant topics for the sector - will be re-proposed, as well as the incoming of foreign operators and all the initiatives related to education.
