Thermax, a leading provider of energy and environmental solutions and a trusted partner in the energy transition, announces a strategic partnership with Ceres Power Holdings plc, a leading developer of clean energy technologies. The two companies have entered into a non-exclusive global license agreement under which Thermax will manufacture, sell and service Stacked Array Modules (SAMs) based on Ceres’ advanced Solid Oxide Electrolysis (SOEC) technology. Thermax will also develop, commercialize and sell SAM Balance of Modules (SBMs) and multi-megawatt SOEC electrolyzer modules. The partnership marks a major step towards accelerating the deployment of SOEC technology for cost-effective green hydrogen production in India and around the world.

Under the terms of the collaboration, Thermax will leverage its extensive experience in heat integration and waste heat recovery to manufacture the first-of-its-kind pressurized SAM, and to design, manufacture and develop the SAM Balance of Modules (SBM), the cornerstone for further development of multi-MW SOEC electrolyser modules.

The collaboration aims to revolutionize hydrogen production by delivering a system that is up to 25% more efficient than existing low-temperature electrolysis technology, and effectively utilizes steam from industrial process heat/waste recovery. This makes it an ideal decarbonization solution for hard-to-abate industries such as ammonia/fertilizer, steel, refineries and chemical production. As a step towards commercialization, Thermax plans to establish an electrolyzer manufacturing plant, develop a supply chain, and localize key components. This collaboration makes Thermax one of the few companies in the world to offer large-scale SOEC systems for commercial applications.

This is a strategically important agreement for Ceres as we continue to build a global ecosystem of world-class partners. Our technology enables Thermax to develop next-generation hydrogen solutions for customers in hard-to-abate industrial sectors, stimulating market demand for our manufacturing licensees. Entering this new region is an exciting opportunity for Ceres as we help enable the path to industrial decarbonization in this rapidly evolving market.”
